High Speed Rail Station 2010

This High Speed Rail (HSR) Station is sited in Peotone Illinois, population 5000. The combination of high tech HSR and rural surroundings and tradition was an interesting challenge. Ultimately the station's fragmented program elements create a campus environment that respects the scale of the surrounding town and creates more opportunity for gathering and public use. In essence it becomes a town cultural as well as transportation node. At the same time the station's materials and formal articulation respond to the seed and technology of HSR, from the fluttering steel platform canopies to the lifting panels of the "Quonset" station pavilions.
